The City of Encinitas was incorporated on October 1, 1986. The City Council of Encinitas is the governing body of the City, and it consists of the Mayor and four elected Council members. The Council adopts goals and procedures that they believe the city should provide its residents, and it approves the City’s Financial Plan and Capital Improvement Plan.
The City of Encinitas has a population of approximately 63,000 people, with a median household income of roughly $120,000. Of the City’s population, 76.4% are White (non-Hispanic), 15.9% are Hispanic or Latino, 3.8% are Asian, and 0.4% are Black.[1] In the 2020 Presidential Election, 79.9% of voters in the City of Encinitas voted Democrat, while 29.9% voted Republican.[2]
